Kongtaiaikengou Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The type section is located at Kongtaiaikengou, about 30 km southeast of Wushi County Seat, Xinjiang. It was named by Liao Zhuoting et al. in 1990.
Lithology and Thickness
Composed of neritic-littoral clastic rocks. At Kongtaiaikengou, it is divided into two members: Lower Member is yellow-brown, gray-black and purple-red sandstones, medium- to fine-grained sandstones and quartz micro-conglomerate intercalated with sandy shale, containing fusulinids and brachiopods. Upper Member is yellow-brown clayey siltstone intercalated with 6 layers of black-gray bioclastic limestone, containing fusulinids, brachiopods and corals. Thickness 1015.1 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Conformable onto the Mengdalek Fm, or disconformable contact with the underlying Devonian stratum (at type section)
Upper contact
Disconformable contact with the overlying Bijingtawu Fm
Regional extent
Distributed in the areas from Wushi County to Akqi County
